Installing the Socket Policy File Server

  • Download the latest version from the Downloads page
    Make sure that your system meets the requirements specified in the release log
  • Run the MSI installerand install the application
  • Start the Socket Policy File Server service (Open Control Panel, go to System and Security and under Administrative Tools double click Services. Select the "Socket Policy File Server" service in the list and click on Start the service)

  • The server is now ready to accept client connections.
  • You can Start and Stop the service using the Services panel.

Note: You will need to add a firewall rule to allow incoming TCP connections of port 843.
          Also, please consider modifying the socket connection file to suit your security needs (the default file permits all cross-domain traffic). See the following section to learn how to change the socket connection file.

 

 

Changing the socket policy file

  • Stop the Socket Policy File Server service (Open Control Panel, go to System and Security and under Administrative Tools double click Services. Select the "Socket Policy File Server" service in the list and click on Stop the service)
  • Open the installation folder (usually {Program Files}\Socket Policy File Server\
  • Locate the SocketPolicyFile.xml

  • Open the file, perform the changes and save
    Note: By default the socket policy file allows all cross-domain requests. 
  • Start the "Socket Policy File Server" service
